I know you’ve heard it before…time flies, but our home has been filled with so much excitement and anticipation for my girl’s big day. She starts Kindergarten today! I did not expect this would be more of an adjustment for me than the resilient girl we raised. First off, we have to set our alarms so much earlier than we ever have. (I don’t think I set it to 6:30 when I was in college or had a full-time job! Maybe I set it that early to catch a plane a few times…any way.) Then, I will be the mom who drives around all morning picking up and dropping off at different times while trying to squeeze in a workout and, if I’m lucky, a few errands. Lastly, we won’t be able to do our Adventure Tuesdays. For the past 8 months I’ve managed to keep my promise of taking my girls on a local adventures instead of dragging them around to run errands. We explored all over Southern California and I am so glad we did it together as it was our time…they learned so much and I was able to see just how much they loved and wondered about animals and science, people and culture and life as it unfolded on them while walking and driving around. They loved street music and asked about the difference between graffiti art and vandalism. They asked about being homeless and poor and why other places were so “fancy.” What an incredible opportunity to have been able to give this to my girls. (I may have to incorporate regular “ditch days” this year…just to keep it fun!) Now she’s beginning a journey where I won’t be able to guide and consent, but watch her run across the bridge to school and hope we’ve instilled her with the confidence to trust her own gut, will and heart. Well…here’s our girl. Watch out World…here comes our baby!
