You might of heard this before and thought, “That’s easy,” but it’s actually easier said than done. Like many photographers, parents will often stop their kids from an activity to pose and smile at the camera for a perfect shot. While in many cases this can be good, I challenge you to just capture them in the moment of what they are doing.
One way of practicing this is continuing to take photos well after they’ve posed. In the examples below, you’ll find some of my favorite moments of families who have “forgotten” I was taking their picture and simply indulging in the moment. What you’ll find are genuine, timeless images that everyone will remember in a positive, fun way. Remember, the trick here is to keep shooting after the “pose” to capture genuine moments.
