Today’s pic tip is a fun exercise as it makes for awesome social media photos as well as storytelling memories. Focusing in on your subject is a great way to give your viewer a first-hand perspective on the moment. For example, during Halloween last year I posted a Thursday Pic Tip suggesting Step-by-Step which was about taking photos documenting how to carve a pumpkin to a Jack-O-Lantern. As you can see in the images below, as I focus in (and out) on the subject (the pumpkin) I lead your eye to the important elements of the moment.
For social media purposes like Instagram, focusing in on your subject gives the viewer your perspective on the moment. It can tell the viewer what the most important details of the moment was and leads their eyes directly to it. It can make for a very strong, intentional and purposeful photo.
If you love to scrapbook or make digital albums, focusing in on your subject can lend to telling the story of the moment. In this example, it tells the viewer the story about how we carve a pumpkin to a Jack-O-Lantern.
As in last week’s Thursday Pic Tip to photograph the details of the moment, I encourage you to get out there and focus in on the important details that help either make a strong social media image or lend to telling the story of the moment.
Have a great weekend!
