Some of my favorite images from each of my sessions are the ones that capture the details of the shoot. Sometimes it will be the landscape, the shoes the client is wearing or the wind blowing through the child’s hair. What sets the scene and brings me back to the moment are all of these, sometimes, unnoticed details of that time. From one shot that may or may not include a smiling face, a story of that moment can be told. As a mom, I try to capture these small details of my children’s day-to-day like holding a pencil, tying their shoes, brushing their hair…fleeting moments that had I not captured would have been forgotten.
Today’s Thursday Pic Tip encourages you to stop asking your children to look at the camera and smile, but for you to look at the surroundings of your child so you can capture a special detail. Something of that moment about them that you can tell the story of 10, 20, 30 years from now just by a small detail. It’s cliche to say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but isn’t it when the words tell of a detail in your child’s history?
The first image below is of my younger daughter who LOVED these leopard booties. To be honest, I loved them as much as she did. She wanted to wear them everywhere with everything from jeans and dresses to bathing suits. So adorable and a moment I won’t soon forget.
The following images are ones from my client shoots that I love so much.
